apathy is the absence of feeling or indifference and generalized unaffectedness.
apathy in a psychological context means several things. the most common types are bystander apathy and social apathy.
bystander apathy refers to the bystander effect in which witnesses of violent or stressful event don't intervene to stop them.
social apathy refers to lack of interest in social activities. today the term may also be used to describe a lack of empathy for social/community causes.
